WELCOME TO PUERTO MORELOS
Dive into Mexican Naval history
Formally known as the USS Knave (AM-256), an Admiral-class minesweeper built for the US Navy during World War II.
Decommissioned by the US Navy in 1946, she was sold to the Mexican Navy in 1962. In 1994 she was renamed ARM Cadete Juan Escutia (C56), where she served patrolling the waters of the gulf of Mexico and the Mexican Caribbean Sea.

In 2000 the C56 was donated to the marine park of Puerto Morelos (small fishing town 20 min north of Playa Del Carmen) and sunk to become an artificial reef.
The C56 is definitely one of the best wreck dives in Mexico. Laying up right at a max depth of 30m and like the C53, she measure’s 52m (184ft) long, 10m (33ft) wide and 12m (40ft) from keel to superstructure.
Marine life is in abundance around this amazing wreck. Squadron’s of Eagle Ray’s are the main attraction, gathering here every winter. Large Turtles, Green Moray Eel’s, southern Sting Ray’s and big groupers can also be found in and around the wreck all year round.
